BOOKING INSTRUCTIONS

This Page is a working document that contains regular events and provisional bookings at Star and Shadow for the next two months.

Entering information for a date is provisional. ALL EVENTS NEED TO BE CONFIRMED AT A PROGRAMMING MEETING.

Provisional bookings must include your name and contact details - phone or email - or they will not be accepted.

The emphasis is on you as a programmer to attend a meeting, otherwise your event will not be confirmed. This applies for all bookings - made prior to and post brochure deadline. If you cannot attend a meeting (see dates below) please email the Programme Team: programme@lists.starandshadow.org.uk link: [1]

Events that have been confirmed will be indicated by a C and date of meeting.

Meetings for this programme will be:

6pm Monday: 14 July, 28 July, (11 August, 25 August brochure deadline tbc)

If you are new to the cinema, please come to an induction session - second Saturday of month at 11am.

It need not interfere with Rimini. Lets discuss it at a meeting.

Sun 19 Oct - film Gumshoe, Albert Finney as the bingo caller turned private detective a la Bogart, with Billy Whitelaw, 88 mins [KP jennifer@jpartington.orangehome.co.uk] Available 35mm - sony

Wed 22 Oct - THX1138 - Dir George Lucas, colour 1971,CinemaScope 95 mins, Warner Bros, Starring Robert Duvall & Donald Pleasence Lucas' feature debut is set in a future society located underground where many things have long been outlawed including love and sex. THX 1138 (Duvall) becomes an outlaw when he rediscovers these unknown pleasures and is hunted by android police. Visually extraordinary, particularly the white-on-white limbo scenes. Phipps (tbc)

Sat 25 Oct - Lee - wedding party. Needs lots of discussion. Pauline, Ilana and Haz to continue this conversation. pencilled in. lee.wells@blueyonder.co.uk. In fact, Haz has continued this discussion and the reception is going ahead. Haz is OK to keyhold but is aware that it might be hard to get volunteers for the night so any stalwart help welcomed!

Sun 26 Oct - film provisional- two films without dialogue from the 1960s, The Plank and A Home of Your Own will be of special interest to those interested in construction work wild west style. KP to organise

Fri 31 Oct - Lulu's Pension Party tbc -To Sir, With Love (1967) film-disco/DJs-band/live act-currently discussing with London dance troupe The Actionettes making a rare appearance outside the capital-night changed to avoid 'popklubb' on saturday night previously planned-closer to lulu's 60th birthday on 3rd Nov-ready steady go-the weekend starts here...etc (have already attended meeting back in June but will come to next July meeting to discuss further-Michael Clunkie 07812 372970)

Sun 16 Nov Start of the Star and Shadow's Fred Wiseman season which comprises of 4 films from this remarkable film maker plus an open seminar on the state of the doc. The whole season has been generously supported by Norther Film + Media. First film in the Fred Wiseman Season: Hospital (1969 - 84 mins USA DVD) Wiseman's second movie covers the daily action in outpatients and emergency in a large New York hospital; rated by New York magazine as one of the most memorable films made in the city. Sun 30 Nov - Fred Wiseman: MISSILE (1987 115 mins USA DVD) It doesn't frighten the audience with apocalyptic scenes of nuclear holocaust. Missile simply documents the step by step training of the sincere young men and women whose fingers are on the button. (adrinuk@yahoo.co.uk) CONFIRMED
