FilmSchool
From The Star And Shadow Cinema Wiki
Mat's idea, interpreted by Christo, feb 06:
film school -
an open resource for people who do not want to go through the standard film school system. resources would be increased and improved and be shared collectively, paid for through funding applications and/or professional film projects.
Rather than paying fees for using resources 'students' work voluntary shifts in the star and shadow cinema or in the filmbee darkroom.
There can be more than one tier of involvement - we could run basic film courses in video editing etc, especially linked with community work, and in return 'students' do a number of shifts as ushers/ bar staff/ etc.
There is funding possibilities with this too.
It might be nice to be able to pay tutors though?? But does that fuck up the idea of it all? It does make sense to provide people with potential to earn a small living through running film education projects - maybe they should be distinct from the film school?
The idea is lovely because it both ofers an alternative exchange to high fees and heavily structured learning - participation in making an organisation survive, plus first hand film education watching what is programmed, and the growth of a critical environment for filmmaking. it also gives people practical skills in all areas of film exhibition as well as filmmaking.
It might be good to have some from of structure for the course - like a weekly seminar meeting or something whereby each person involved might take turns to present something? some level of structure is good for some people because it gives them something to work towards.
