Exhibitions
Its great to have interesting exhibitions of art works and other things. However as the cinema is not a gallery having an exhibition is different here.
- You can put on an exhibition here for free
- If you have or are applying for funding, please include a cost for the Star and Shadow. This can either be a monetary contribution to the cinema or a space provided in kind - or a combination of both. Your 'buddy' will be able to advise on this.
We are happy to work with you and discuss all the following:
- The spaces need to be used to make sure that the public can still move around the building well and the works need to be installed safely.
- Installation and taking work down is your responsibility and needs to be arranged well in advance but we are happy to discuss how and where things should go up.
- Exhibitions can last as long as you like depending on what else is on.
- Any technical requirements need to be discussed to make sure equipment belonging to S+S is available and also if you are bringing equipment in that this is done safely.
- It is worth bearing in mind what else is on and how your work is protected if it is delicate. (Because it is not supervised work has on occasion been half-inched - we hope this doesn’t happen often but we cannot guarantee against it unless you are prepared to invigilate)
- We also ask that you return the space to its neutral state (i.e. how you found it.)
- Exhibitions are open when other events are on. If you want to have other open times, these need to be discussed and agreed with keyholders – as each opening time requires a keyholder. This is especially important if you are going to advertise these times publicly.
Exhibition openings
Its great to have exhibition openings - often these work as the time most people see the show as we are not open for exhibitions in the same way as galleries
- Free Drinks - if you offer free drinks, please talk to us. We'd be happier if you put money behind our bar rather than in someone else's till and are happy to negotiate with you.
- People coming to an exhibition opening still need to be members even if the event is free.
- You need to provide volunteers for door, bar and clean up. Volunteers should have been to an induction or worked 2 shifts previously.
Putting exhibition info on the wiki
When the event is mentioned, please put it under the first day with full info, and then on every other day in short form.
E.g.
- Long form: Mickey Mouse’s painting exhibition, April 25 – may 10th mickey.mouse@disney.com, 0191 555 9999.
- Short form: M.Mouse exhib
