Ten Canoes
From The Star And Shadow Cinema Wiki
Ten Canoes (2006)
Star and Shadow Cinema welcomes you to experience Australia’s first Aboriginal language feature film Ten Canoes from the 8th July 2007. Winner of Un Certain Regard, Special Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2006, the film’s narrator tells the stories of his ancestors, tales as old as time fuelled by jealousy, desire, war and revenge. Director Rolf De Heer draws on Australia’s outstanding swamplands scenery creating a unique place and time. Critically acclaimed and internationally recognized, Ten Canoes is a fascinating ethnographic study which is nonetheless playful and witty. The narrator informs us ‘this story is growing into a large tree now, with branches everywhere.’ Join us at Star and Shadow to enjoy the warmth and wisdom of his story.
