Shimmer signs
From The Star And Shadow Cinema Wiki
Proposal for a Shimmer shign on the front door of the cinema.
Underneath is a load of responses to this idea.

Totally awesome - and can we also have a big spot light for extra shimmer?
Michael Morphew
It looks promising. Are there any examples locally that we could check out?

checked out the site and thought the signs looked pretty cool. My only worry would be durability in Newcastle's nasty weather. Most of the projects pictured seemed to be limited-life sorts of things, like advertising hoardings (which usually stay up 60 days at most). I've used mylar spangles in crafts projects before and when the colour comes off (as it often does easily) they can look faded and yucky quickly. But I'm sure there is more than one type--maybe what they used is different from the sort I've used. See what you can find out!

The one of the church is still up in Grizedale forest, 6 years old. I think they are long lasting. The main problem is the fact that you can easily unhook the discs if you wanted to - it would be nice and high though.

oooh! I would never say no to a little ritzy glitzy. I say it's a goer!

Neon: info@sarahblood.com makes the stuff.. now I have just read the email properly... I like the shimmer best!!

The design would have to be checked with planning officials at the Council - they allow just anything. Dale Bollands, our helpful council officer, might know.

HI've seen them in real life, and they're very DISCO! Personally, I liked the monochrome style, like the door into the cafe area.

Shimmer Signs are so lovely! I don't know if you remember, there was some last little sequins hanging off a bar in Whiteley Bay, but they are gone now. It would be amazing to use the stuff.

glimmering signs shining, yes. i still also think the painted signage needs to be continued its probably still only half there ie. no reels, and then im not even speaking of the potential colour on the white...
Chloe
Yup, seems like an interesting idea. I think the shimmer signs look rather fine - almost like Venetian mosaics, (which can only be a good thing). Then again I am well known for embracing anything remotely sparkly or spangly with gusto - so I may be a little biased.
Nathalie
That Kicks Ass and low tech too - I love it!

Very spangly and nice signage. I saw a whole building front covered in this stuff in Berlin. I did think to myself at the time, that when I was a disaffected youth, I would have picked these things off the wall.
christo
well, we would have to keep it out of the reach of tall gangly disaffected young people. Those blue doors are flippin huge though, so i reckon it could be ok.

i am a huge fan but with two caveats:
1) it has to be high enough off the ground so people won't steal the shimmer discs
2) it looks best when it incorporates some kind of perspex or wood text over top as well (as in the coco cola sign they have on their site) were you thinking one big film reel or what?
Jimmy
I is in favour of shiny discs
Becca
Oh that's lovely. can we have it, can we, can we?
