Promoters' contract

PROMOTERS' CONTRACT
The Star & Shadow is a venue that was built and is run entirely by volunteers who share a similar attitude towards working collectively - we see it as a 'with' not 'for' relationship whereby everyone has equal responsibility. Therefore, the venue itself is an empty shell that doesn't operate like most commercial venues, whereby staff are paid to provide regular services. Instead, every event requires volunteers to prepare the space, staff it and clean it up afterwards.
Capacity = 110 people
DIRECT VENUE HIRE
Hire of the venue and PA is £150 + VAT (£176.25). For this Star and Shadow covers all the staffing for the night (including the door). The PA is 75% operative. The price doesn’t include tech – you have to provide your own. Hire fee is due one calendar month before event night. Your event will be included in all Star and Shadow publicity (inclusion in written programme is subject to you providing suitable copy in time for print deadlines*). There is no discount for bringing your own PA. Use of the cinema’s decks and/or lights is charged extra. The promoter takes door sales. However everyone attending must become a member, including promoters (membership is £1 per year) and membership money goes to the cinema. The cinema takes bar sales. The promoter is responsible for all other costs for the night such as payment of acts, riders and publicity.
INDIRECT VENUE HIRE
This provides an option whereby you can get involved with the cinema/venue and provide your own volunteers to run your night. We take a deposit of £50. Deposit is due one calendar month before event night. You get this deposit back if you fulfill ALL of the conditions below: 1. You provide at least 2 volunteers - 1 person for the door and 1 for the bar (if you think you’re gonna sell out, you need more – 6 is good for a busy night). All your volunteers need to have worked at least one shift at the Star and Shadow beforehand – sign up behind the bar. 2. You appoint a responsible person for the night who, needless to say, doesn’t get shitfaced. The responsible person needs to come early to receive a fire safety briefing and is responsible for general probity, ensuring the door ALWAYS remains staffed and ensuring you don’t go over capacity (110 people). 3. You, or your mates come to the cinema the next day and clean the bar area, venue floor and toilets. 4. The bar takes £250. • If the bar doesn’t take this much we will charge you the difference up to £250 (eg: bar takes £180 – use your £50 deposit to take it to £230 and you pay an extra £20).*8 The PA is 75% operative. Tech is not included.
- Programme is printed bi-monthly and print deadlines are always the 25th of the month c. 6 weeks before programme month (eg: 25 Oct for Dec/Jan).
- As a guide, drinks are between £2-3, so if you get 70 people through the door, that’s only about 1.5 drinks each.
