Tue 6 Nov - 8pm, The Truth About Weapons Of Mass Destruction The Truth About Weapons Of Mass Destruction
In the summer of 2004 with the growing death toll in Iraq, the increasing cost of the war and the now public incompetence of the British Ministry of Defence, four lads with no media experience posed as film makers and set out on a self funded road journey to discovery the truth about weapons of mass destruction.
Despite having no budget and a only basic knowledge of history they soon found themselves amongst stockpiles of chemical weapons (with the full co-operation of one of Europe's ministers of defence). It turns out that Europe has a chemical weapons problem and the lads spend a few days filming the clean up process with the dedicated soldiers charged with this dangerous but gallant task.
With discoveries of chemical weapons which only Hans Blix could have dreamed of this film shows how easy it is for any one to find chemical weapons and explores the possibility that one could be easily be brought back to London. A truly explosive critique of the Ministry of Defence, the weapons 'dossier' and any minister who voted for the war in Iraq.
We're delighted to have one of the filmmakers chatting about the film tonight.

Wed 7 Nov - Exhibition space - prints by Kate E Deeming
Wed 7 Nov - 43 (Two) by Kate E Deeming
US performance artist and film-maker Kate E Deeming has been compared to both Miranda July and Derek Jarman, and has worked in parallel in the worlds of performance/film/installation for over a decade.
43 (two) is a new site-specific work projected onto walls in post-industrial spaces (the Star & Shadow being the first), the forgotten ‘in-between’ spaces where people and history hover precariously. Each of four parts is shown on a separate time code (including the music), presenting a personal experience for the viewer who brings with them their own sense of time and space. The parts balance the worlds of film art and performance film, and expose the ‘in-between’ spaces of the film itself.
Kate E will also be in discussion with Light Bulb 08 director Craig Wilson.

Fri 9 Nov - John Smith. Emerging from the quintessentially English plains of Devon but resident on the banks of the Merseysippi in Liverpool for seven years, John Smith’s dazzlingly accomplished folk vignettes have been met with waves of applause wherever he’s stopped off, having supported and learned from John Martyn for the past 18 months, as well as playing countless shows under his own steam. Already described by folk giant John Renbourn as "the future of acoustic guitar music", make your own mind up when he comes to the Star and Shadow.

We Are Traffic! (50 mins / Dir: Ted White) Chronicles the history and development of the "Critical Mass" bicycle movement - one of the most spirited and dynamic social/political movements of the apathetic 90's. In over 200 cities across the world, Critical Mass has now become a monthly ritual of reclaiming the streets by cyclists riding en masse. With traffic congestion, pollution, and road rage on the rise, growing numbers around the world are advocating for transportation alternatives, and Critical Mass is at the cutting edge of this mindset. We Are Traffic! tracks this leaderless, grassroots movement from its beginnings in San Francisco in 1992 to its spread across the globe.
