Star and Shadow General Meeting 7.1.08

        • Forum on 26th Jan 12-5pm to discuss key issues with cinema. A trained facilitator will run the first hour or so. The forum is designed to give people a chance to shape the future of the cinema. Those who don’t normally attend weekly meetings are especially encouraged to attend and give their input and ideas.****


Present: Christo, Dave, Pauline, Chris, Adrin, Phipps, Laura, Stephen, Holly, Hazz, Keith, Bill, Mike, Roger, Laura, Matt, Demetrius, Carlos

Matters Arising Confirmations of programme items on wiki - do we need to go through Jan/Feb/Mar? Yes, Holly will ask Debbie as she's just prep'd the text so should be familiar with it.

Programming Point made about quality of print brochure - explained this is due to teething problems of different person prepping programme each time. Christo perhaps we need a bigger brochure 'cos of number of events. Bill - need to have a recognised style & always logo. Matt - there are also accessibility issues with current form. Good practice, might be Side brochures and Cube, Bristol. Matter to be taken forward to discuss during Forum (see below).

Building Maintenance Chairs - approx 80 - often get more than this for Bit Crack and need more chairs. Craig has started trying to look for chairs, Pauline to give Chris his number. Lights - Chris been speaking to tech at Dance City - got a bar out of them, some fresnels and a dimmer pack. Bill already done lots of work on this with Kevin - prep'd all necessary ironwork but has stalled in past few weeks. Bill will get hold of Kevin to get bars down for Sat. Chris will be in touch with James Froman of Dance City about getting the lights delivered. Otherwise to do 2nd Sat of Feb. Also need to sort out a sparky. Chris will ask James if he's qualified to help with this.

INFO: Every 2nd Sat of month is volunteer induction but is also maintenance day. Christo will do this Sat.

Recycling - Keith proposed we stop using staff toilet and use workshop area. Pauline - can we get some plastic crates for behind bar? Lots of suggestions about getting more bins - have 2 bins the same, one behind bar and one in workshop area. When bar one is full, gets swapped with empty one in workshop which then gets emptied. Debate - what when they're both full? Relies on people filling own cars and taking recycling to Morrisons, cost implications asking council to do more pickups. Unresolved.

Projector Need new projector for DVDs, current one isn't good enough quality, looking at cost of around £5k. Keith and Matt been looking at this. If people have ideas for which projector they think is best talk to projector group.

Finance 21st Jan is first quarterly review of finances since AGM. Laura, Christo and Ilana need to prep a report for the meeting.

Sponsorship - Matt - sponsor on prog (for paint) Axa-Bell. Large chemical co - have been sued by Dutch govt several times for polluting, produce military equipment, are involved with largest animal testing company in UK. Are we happy to be promoting them? Holly - they gave us one lot of paint and £5k nearly 2 years ago. It was through their community programme - no-one researched them. That their logo is still appearing is a mistake - should've been taken off. Think there should be an ethical policy about who funds us. Debbie to talk to Annette the designer to see if get their logo and NFM logo taken off upcoming programme.

Bar Where is re-shaping of bar area up to? Hazz to contact Huwa to see if can come in to do work.


Noise - Bit Crack had London act on in December - art gallery next door had a party. Too much noise from there, ruined Bit Crack event. Were asked to keep it down several times but didn't respond. Was music not conversation. Holly has met with Matt from next door about this but not making progress. Chris might look at going to meet Matt to see if there are ways of working together on events to get around this. Christo to look into costs of insulating.

Glue Group - run gallery on Heaton Rd. Do workshops, events (gigs, art performs, poetry performs) as well as exhibitions. Hoping to put forward a proposal on using foyer space for exhibitions. There're 7 people in the group.

AOB Hazz had her bike nicked from foyer - will put a note up saying so.

Box office - Hazz will tidy up & get a system for somewhere to record last memb number that was used.

Christo will order new membership cards tomorrow
