Programming: Confusion over brochure copy.
Keep matinees? Or get rid of matinees. Move them to 5pm – Sunday Double Bills? Thursday double bills? 6pm start has tended to be difficult. Important to be patient about programming decisions – very early days still. Useful to stick to set schedule. Have a named music convenor? If they are a promoter too then all the better, but they have a remit for making sure we have the best things. Useful to Upper budget? Good idea. Careful to have an open programme. Important not to collapse arguments. Private hires wont really help us pay our way, but the bar will. If it becomes a social place that will be a more steady source of income. With private hires, useful to reiterate it is a balance between ‘we need the money’ and careful that it doesn’t inform the way people perceive us. E.g gigs are in public consciousness. WE NEED TO CLARIFY THAT £300 IS WHAT WE QUOTE TO PEOPLE AND IT IS NEGOTIABLE DOWNWARDS. Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday is our film nights. If gigs happen on those dates, they could happen after films, and on Monday, Tuesday, Friday.
PROGRAMMING – Cant book anything through BFI – Need to have a system for how many come in at conc. How many at full price. There is a sheet of tallies. One colour for normal, one colour for concession. Write down numbers at beginning of shift and once at the end. Confirmed we will use the numbers being written down. Usher was also designed to be someone who tears tickets. Missing – Season and contemporary film? Definitely have a cinema of the world title by Friday. FRIDAY IS THE NEW DEADLINE FOR MARCH AND APRIL. Have one person each night who is key-holder and is responsible for the night. First in, making sure when people arrive that they are happy in jobs, cashing up done, has overview of the night.
