Star and Shadow Meet Mon 22 Oct 2007
Attending: Craig, Christo, Sylvie, Karl, Steve, Sarah, Deborah, Matt, Sarah, Pauline, Alistair, Dorothy, Adrin, Stephanie, Ilana, Debbie - lots of latecomers where didn't get names.
Bike Fest: Pauline to talk to Lucero about what time to be in - bike fest film will be on until 4.30. Dorothy to do a poster and flyer, Dorothy and Craig to approach designers for this. Sylvie suggested a documentary on the naked bike ride - she will check the rights and talk to Dorothy. Dorothy will look at wiki and firm up times and running order - also to sort out volunteers. Set a poster deadline of beginning of Nov.
Kate E Deeming: 7 Nov - Culture Show are interested in filming. Put show up on Tues and take down Fri. Hype to the art crowd. Ilana will put in Locator listings.
Extreme Sport: Steve does BMX website and part of a group that makes films. Would like to put on events for people to meet up and show these films. Discussion of different hire models - if letting group in for free we would take a hire fee, or could charge on door. Karl will have a look at the options and wiki.
NYUFF: Discussed various poster distribution. Making pizzas, Pauline to ask Rosie if interested, Ilana to talk to person from whistling kettle.
Comedy: Karl - idea for putting on open mic nights for comedians. Karl to mail gigs@starandshadow.org.uk and will send contract of how run non film events.
AV Fest: Ilana 28 Feb to 8 March - focus will be on that first weekend. Overlaps w some of venice film fest - Mat said could move. Michelle introduced AV Fest - bi-annual fest around region, vis arts, music, performance, film. 25 venues involved last time. Theme this year is broadcast. Will have a temp radio station as well. Screening progr this year is about taking tele to the cinema. People to think of ideas and pass them on to organisers. Ilana to put dates in wiki. Programme deadline end Nov. Ilana to get interested parties together for a meeting.
Academe: Sarah - network comprising scholars, lecturers and researchers working on film. Sarah is setting up a database of contacts/activities. Useful for us to look up people with various skills, but Sarah would also like to make broader links. North East Regional Film Seminar was the start of it. Thinking of putting on some events - screenings & discussion maybe Jan & March. Christo: 17 Nov - Future Histories conference in Sunderland - new media conf. Christo is giving a paper and has started writing it on the wiki. Christo is doing an MA at Leeds and thinking of programming a festival with fellow students - Sarah may be able to tie into this too.
Flea Market: Deborah talk of organising a flea market - charge for tables. Worth doing on the same day as the Cluny market so people can go to both. Need to make sure cluny know.
AOB Printed programme: - for Oct/Nov will be out this week - need a big push for distribution. Also need folding – anyone available please come 6pm Thurs and help fold/distro. Adrin to put notice out on volunteer list for people to come and fold and distro. Need to recruit Debbie or Simon or Alan to print off the labels.
AGM: stays as next Monday.
Bar: What's procedure for when tills start getting full? Person who is in charge of the event should be putting it away periodically. If concerned ask them to put it away or ask to be shown how to use the drop safe.
Artworks: Some complaints re us having amplified music events at same time as events next door in Artworks. They have an event 1st Thurs of every month, so no noisy gigs to be booked at S&S then. We are in negotiation with them to share info and sort this out.
