Matters Arising from Last p&p meeting.

• Make a general poster for Star and Shadow - consensus
• Sunday night screenings poster
• Delegation of publicity? Some things are getting vrey little publicity. Ongoing discussion about how to get at least some publicity done for everything. Those who are keen on doing things, do them irrespective of whatever else is going on publicity wise. Anxiety about wasting time on publicity for things that will be cancelled.
• Wedding/warehouse party - still under discussion. carrying programming Prcedures, i.e how we deal with the categories of hire (private party, gig, filmmaker showing their own work etc.)

New Ideas

• Friday 9 May pencilled in for Scenario night (Ghetto Method. Would like a saturday. They will replace wood from a board which has been sold.
• Children's screening - Primary aged children accompanied by parents, induct volunteers about Child Protection procedures, Newcastle wide, but advertised at local primries. Applying for money for making the cinema more child friendly. Could make 'child friendlying the cinema' as focus for next maintenance day. Free films to begin with. 4 screenings - 2 on thursdays at 3.30, sundays at 3pm - suitable dates on wiki. Idea is for primary aged kids on thurs, and sunday too. Thurs 17 April, Su 20 April, Th 15 May, Su 18 May
• Films without Borders - 13 April - confirmed.
• Haz's theatreproject - hybrid theatre gig piece in collaboration with South Africans. She is sure she wants to organise and perform it here, with 3 South African actor/musicians. Funding pending. Is it ok to do theatre type work at the cinema - consensus that it is not aproblem. Need time to do it - rehearsal and performance time. People felt happy with rehearsals in the day time - as long as needed. Performances - proposal of 3 performances a week for 2 weeks? October time. Could be a high demand time though. Programme films in conjunction?? Suggestion - tour it as well to increase outputs from the energy expended. Potential to put it on at a later slot than conventional performance times, to allow other programming.
• James J-P - do an installation of lego robots in the hallway, opening on 11th May-22May. Screening of hisown feature length film piece during opening. Concern about theft of works in un-invigilated space. Confirmed.
• Stephanie - can she do a gig on Tuesday night? About capacity... If Stephanie is not making any further demands on S&S capacity then it is fine. It makes it fair if people are requesting gigs but not putting anything else into the organisation.
• Programming - Jean Tierney programme, Laura, Ghost of Mrs Mieux. Old films, so might be good to have a talk.
• Daniel's Surf Night. Lots of brilliant underground surf nights, and there is an interest in them. Do one night, see how it goes, then one every quarter? He could source films and rights, and do promotion. Sounds like a great idea. Buddying people - Debbie will do it. Concern over contractual relationships etc.
• Trish wanted to confimr VAMOS night. Stephanie to be buddy. Consider late night event. Friday 18th July confirmed.
• Green Fest - we are willing to help with a film tent. We have alternative power to offer as well. Could provide this venue for after parties etc. WE are having the after party for definite. We are NOT having the 'large scale' after party on Sunday night. Could we please have £500 towards it.
• Womens group from Newcastle uni interested in things. Can they put something on for International Women's Group.
• VDay - Cannot happen because that week already has 5 things going on that week, which has to remain sacrosanct. Even though it would be wonderful, the consensus was to keep a 5 day week and to resist breaking the rules we set.
• People Like Us - Confirmed
• Sean's idea has been accepted - so it is go ahead for the Sean Conway film night.
• Dan - has been doing the main repainting of the hallway. Wanted to find out issues about exhibition - can do everything they want as long as it returns to existing state.
• Gogol Bordello on 28th March. - Screening of Pied Piper of Hutzovina on 30th at 5.30pm.
• Steve - wanted to know about putting bands on. Got info from Pauline.
• Slampt - cant do it on 11th may - ned to choose another date.
• Ouseburn Festival - NARC have Saturday night - should we do something too. Do a children's screening. Consider doing a larger scale festival again like Beach Party Film Fest. Postpone this decision to 2 weeks time?
• Shutting in August again? DId have serious repercussions in September and October. Consider how to mitigate the worst parts of that - postponed for two weeks.
• New Internationalist - we have shown 2/3rds of the films, Pauline said Projectile interested too. We could ask if we could have inkind advertising space? Holly to take forward.

Private Hires

• Smart's birthday party - confirmed that it cant happen.
• Kirsten Luckens requesting a meeting at Star and Shadow on tuesday 26th feb. £300 hire fee.

Issues from last 2 weeks

• 29th feb - Exhibition opening has been confirmed over a booking on the wiki - Paul Kelly's night therefore has unfairly been cancelled. Wiki went weird during the block booking of the AV festival. Apologies to Paul Kelly. Working fine after all, but so he has decided not to pay!

ACTION - Wiki should be always chronological. If you are doing an event over more than a day, you need to put in the activity on every day it is on.

• 5th April - NARC want a late license. They are paying £150 hire fee - Pauline has told them it will cost more for door staff etc. Pauline to renegociate to get more cash for the greater costs - door staff, late license and small extra fee.
• 28th feb - something going on in artworks that night too - need to clarify and ok this.
• P.A - Bill p.a guy needs an income from a p.a he wants to store here. Rimiini folk to look into it for purchase.
• 12 March - Phipps night but has now been cancelled - offer it to int. women's day people.
• Carlos - drummed up folk playing. serious noise issue when Drummed Up play. Perhaps put them in the bar for noise issue. Would be into any alternative lagers. Coming in at 1pm to do filling and painting.
• Environmental Health coming on Friday morning, so major bar cleaning efort on wednesday evening - Carlos could come and work on wed evening if he is interested.
• Adrin: interested in doing a Dan Lion film night in nov or dec. Just had a big retrospective at the Whitney. Also interested in doing a poetry film event on new years day 2009 - 2pm-12am. Consider a similar deal to NYUFF this coming november too.
