Taking part in meetings
From The Star And Shadow Cinema Wiki
An important part of being involved in the Star and Shadow Cinema is coming along to meetings and taking part in the decision-making process.
These meetings are where we discuss how things are run, for instance which films we show, how we maintain the building, how the office is run, how we market ourselves, and which grants to apply for. As we are unpaid, and operate with a very flat structure, we rely on the input of all of our volunteers to make things happen.
If you let us know which areas you might want to volunteer in we can direct you more easily. Currently, areas which have some sort of structure for meetings/ coordination are: Bar, Marketing, Programming, Gigs/Private hires, the Project Space, Technical/ Building Maintenance, Office work, Finances, Volunteer coordination.
Most meetings happen on Monday evenings at 6pm, and run as follows:
First Monday of the month: General Meeting
Second Monday of the month: Publicity Meeting
Third Monday of the month: General Meeting
Fourth Monday of the month: Programming Meeting
The General meetings tend to be the most popular and are a very good introduction to both people and the mysterious ways of working at the Star and Shadow.
A facilitator and a minute-taker volunteer at each meeting, and we discuss issues until we come to a consensus (or in other words everyone agrees on a decision, i.e no voting). Everyone has a right to make suggestions, but we respect each other's opinions and conduct our meetings in an atmosphere of support and trust, to encourage all to contribute, so hands up please when you want to ask a question.
