Programme idea holding bay
From The Star And Shadow Cinema Wiki
At the General Meeting of the 5th January 2009 it was decided to create this page for a couple of reasons: It was an observation that sometimes events/seasons were put into the diary on the wiki in order to secure a place but maybe the idea needed more thought and so squeezing it in for reasons of getting it in at all sometimes caused problems further down the line when other simpler ideas had not been put in for lack of room Also it was decided it would be useful to have a place where quickly realisable seasons / film programmes could be reached for in times where another had fallen through at compilation stage (does this make any sense? MF)
So this is a place for ideas that are either not well formed enough for a date OR ideas that can be brought out of the hat in case of emergency.
Please say who you are with your idea so you can be contacted easily.
Thanks (Mat Fleming)
Special People, Justin Edgar, 2008. A film which got some press last year. It's an indie british film about a filmmaker struggling with failiure and not dealing with disabled people he's working with well. And disabled youth struggling with teenage stuff. Scandalously got a 12a certificate from the BBFC for "disability issues" which was later withdrawn. Disbled characters played by disabled actors. - Mat Distributed on 35mm by Geurilla films.

HOW TO FIND ABOUT INTERESTING FILMS THAT NEVER REACHED NEWCASTLE AND THAT WE COULD PROGRAMME:
- go on here: http://www.launchingfilms.com/release-schedule
And look at the past releases: you will find TONNES OF REALLY INTERESTING FILMS (with info about the distributor) that never reached newcastle - make a list of films you like, and then you can try and find a theme, etc to programme them
- look at old issues of SIGHT AND SOUND magazine, in the city library - in their review section, the name of the distributor is always indicated - and a lot of films that are reviewed never reached Newcastle. It's also a good way because you also have the view of sight and sound to read, and their point of view is often interesting
- look at the past programmes of film festivals. Even just the Rotterdam film festival, which is the best really for alternative/different varied film, if you look at the list of films that won prizes, most of these films were never distributed: http://www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com/en/about/awards-and-jury/tiger-awards/ There are contact details for each film from their website.
