At the Star & Shadow Cinema there is on janitor, no general manager and no maintenance person. Safety regulations must therefore be adhered to at all times, and need the cooperation of everyone - volunteers, members and other visitors.

DRAFT HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

Introduction

The Star & Shadow Cinema is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the working environment for its volunteers and visitors. As a consequence of this we encourage all volunteers to regard accident prevention and working safely as a collective and individual responsibility.

Commitment

Star and Shadow Cinema recognises its responsibility to ensure the health, safety and welfare of volunteers and visitors. In fulfilling this responsibility, you have a duty to provide and maintain so far as practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risks to health. S&S is therefore committed to:

As a volunteer, you:

Security

Star & Shadow wants to ensure a safe and secure environment for all volunteers and visitors.

It is the responsibility of volunteers to ensure that they follow security procedures and are diligent in reporting and responding to any breaches of security.

Public Access

You should be aware that the Star & Shadow Cinema is a public building, and because it can be accessed by members of the public, our premises are vulnerable to casual theft. Never leave valuables unattended. If you see someone who looks out of place or who is acting suspiciously, politely ask them whom they wish to see.

In the event of an emergency use the telephone in the office to call the Police. Parts of our premises are only accessible via doors with push-to-open locks, and these should never be propped open, especially when the rooms that they control are unattended.

Personal Safety

At no time should Star & Shadow Cinema volunteers risk their own personal safety. If a volunteer is faced with a potentially violent or threatening situation then they should raise the alarm and call ????.

If a volunteer sees an unattended bag or package then they should not touch or remove it and ????? must be informed.

Volunteers who are required to work in the evening should take care when travelling home. If an volunteer is concerned about travelling home late at night they should speak to ????.

Fire Alarms

General Evacuation - make equipment safe and proceed immediately to the main car park.

Fire Alarm - leave the building immediately and do not re-enter until you are instructed that it is safe to do so.

Fire - if you discover a fire raise the alarm by means of a 'break glass' fire button and providing that it is safe to do so dial 999 on the nearest telephone and state where the fire is. DO NOT attempt to tackle the fire unless you are trained in the use of fire extinguishers.

Fire Drills - are held in fine weather without prior notice
