Box Office
From The Star And Shadow Cinema Wiki
- Find the DOOR cash tin, either in the bar or in the office. (Unlock and leave keys where they live)
- Useful to take one of the little walkie talkies too, so you can keep in touch with other staff.
- ESSENTIAL to check float is £100 and fill in top of cashing up sheet in cashing-up folder in the bar
- Check you have new membership cards and blank filing cards on which to write people's details
- If you have time, tidy front area, stock up on brochures, number cards - n.b check out what number the last member was
- there is now a light and a heater in there! If they dont work, check in the projection room where the switch board is, as sometimes that circuit trips (called box office).
- Interestingly, Hewa, a Kurdish man, has been building lots of furniture in the box office, so it is getting better and better.
- Open doors
- Sign new members in (£1) as you sell the tickets for the evening. On the filing cards, you need the membership number, name, address and email address. If two people live at the same address, you can fill in just one card for the two of them, but MAKE SURE you put both membership numbers on the filing card. This saves on postage.
- Record the number of people going in on the sheet provided - This is actually VITALLY IMPORTANT as it lets us know how many new members joined and how many people came to the film and at what prices, therefore making the paper trail for accounting volunteers a million times easier. it is also useful for you to check against when cashing up. The more obsessively accurate information you provide the better.
(If you are using the ticket machine then record the number of the first ticket and the last; then you know how many are in! )
- Please do not not leave the box office with the cash tin in it, unattended.
- Good plan to arrange to swap with someone - and remember to get yourself a drink for £1 !
Things still to think about:
- What happens if I am being threatened while working in the box office,or I feel unsafe?
